Metalising and spray painted processes can be applied to an almost infinite number of products or components. They are broadly speaking split into functional or decorative coatings and some of the main applications are highlighted below.

  • Lighting

Our modern, state-of-the-art metalising equipment is identical to those approved and installed by several dedicated automotive lighting facilities around the world. They provide rear lamps and headlamps to some of the industries’ leading automotive manufacturers.

As a tier two supplier we supply rear lamps to some of the most iconic British automotive manufacturers for whom we supply both production and prototype components. We also supply a leading European commercial vehicle manufacturer with rear lamps for a range of different vehicles.

    Commercial Lighting
We supply a number of the UK’s leading manufacturers of commercial lighting with both metallised and spray painted components.

The components vary from decorative trims and bezels to more functional items such as reflectors, diffuser blades, louvres and T5 luminaires. These are commonly found in down lighter, recess and surface mounted products and cover a range of different environments including office, healthcare, retail and education.

    Safety Products
Safety products for commercial vehicles, such as amber hazard warning Light bars and beacon reflectors, use metallised rotating reflectors and mirrors as an integral part of their design.

Here at AP Metalising we regard these products as our specialty. With the end product required to pass ECE Regulation 65, our flow coating and polymer top coat processes combine to excel in providing consistent quality components that won’t fail in service, even under extreme conditions.

We have been supplying components for over 10 years to market leaders, who supply parts to over 45 countries worldwide.

We are also proud to say that we supply reflectors for halogen, xenon and LED torches for Europe’s largest manufacturer of intrinsically safe and explosion protected lighting for use in explosive atmospheres.

  • EMI/RFI Shielding
    EMI/RFI Shielding

Vacuum metalising can be used to provide EMI shielding (electro magnetic interference) and RFI shielding (radio frequency interference) for plastic enclosures of electronic devices. There are numerous applications including automotive, medical, aerospace and defence. Vacuum metalising can also be used to provide a vapour and oxygen barrier for moisture sensitive components. We are happy to undertake such work and can supply components that comply with EN 300 440 European standard on Electromagnetic compatibility.

There are advantages to using vacuum metalising. Unlike other methods of shielding such as zinc arc spraying or electroplating, vacuum metalizing does not accumulate large build-ups and deposits, as the aluminium is usually evaporated to a thickness of between 0.5 – 1.5 Microns. Vacuum metalising can also give a greater depth of penetration and adhesion.

An example of EMI/RFI shielding that we are currently involved in, is for shielding of components to enclose motion detector units that are installed in vehicle intruder alarms.

  • Decorative Coatings
    Decorative Coatings

We can apply a decorative metallised or spray painted finish to a large variety of products, again with a large number of different colours and effects.

One area is the POS/POP point of sale or point of purchase market, where we have produced for example, badges, display cases and decorative trim items for retail outlets, such as car showrooms, the brewery trade, cosmetic and tobacco industries.

We so supply manufacturers of household items such as ventilation grilles and plumbing accessories used in kitchens and bathrooms and sold through major DIY outlets in the UK.

We supply a number of the UK’s leading manufacturers of commercial lighting with both metallised and spray painted components for decorative trims and bezels.

We also supply both metallised and spray painted parts to the furniture industry.

This is by no means an exhaustive list. If you have a component that you believe would be enhanced with a metallic or spray painted finish then please contact us.
